Eilidh Quoted in New Report

Optometry Scotland Chair Eilidh Thomson has contributed to a new report examining pressures on eye care services and the importance of integrated pathways that make effective use of community optometry.

While the report’s research focuses primarily on waiting lists and service delivery in England, Eilidh highlighted Scotland’s established community eye care model and the important contribution highly trained optometrists can make:

“The introduction of enhanced pathways for complex acute and chronic eye conditions builds on Scotland’s established community eye care model and demonstrates how highly trained optometrists can support earlier intervention, improve patient access and reduce pressure on hospital services.”

— Eilidh Thomson, Chair of Optometry Scotland

Commissioned by Newmedica, the report considers how greater transparency, integrated care and better use of available clinical capacity could help reduce delays and the risk of avoidable sight loss.
