Optometry Scotland (OS) supports the RCOphth’s call for standardised EHRs in eye care.
We welcome the RCOphth’s call for interoperable electronic health records, which can improve patient safety, continuity of care and service planning.
We support a shared dataset that is practical for community use, backed by investment and suitable across Scotland’s diverse optometry sector.
We note that steps are already being taken in Scotland through the use of OpenEyes within the Community Glaucoma Service, and believe it is vital to continue to build on this integration for new and existing services in future.
OS is ready to work with RCOphth, NHS Scotland and other partners to define a core dataset, while aligning EHR systems nationally and piloting data sharing between community and hospital eye care services.
