Optometry Scotland is delighted to announce that Frank Munro has been shortlisted for the Unsung Hero/Heroes Readers’ Choice Award at Scotland’s Health Awards 2026, following his nomination by Optometry Scotland.
Frank has made an exceptional contribution to community eye care in Scotland. His work in helping to establish General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) was integral to the development of the community optometry model we recognise in Scotland today.
As Scotland marks 20 years of General Ophthalmic Services (GOS), Frank’s nomination provides an opportunity to recognise the people whose expertise, commitment and determination helped shape a service that has transformed the role of community optometry and improved access to eye care for patients across Scotland.
His contribution to the establishment and development of GOS has helped create a system in which optometrists play a central role in delivering accessible, high-quality NHS eye care within communities. We are incredibly proud to see Frank’s contribution recognised through his place on the Scotland’s Health Awards shortlist.
