Optometry Scotland notes the passing of former Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Jeane Freeman and wishes to acknowledge her contribution to community optometry in Scotland.
During her time in government, Ms Freeman played an important role in progressing reform of General Ophthalmic Services. Following discussions with Optometry Scotland at Holyrood, she championed the need for reform of the eye examination fee review process, supporting the introduction of a formal annual review process for GOS. This created a structured mechanism for ongoing dialogue around funding and marked an important step towards a more sustainable framework for community optometry.
Optometry Scotland recognises Ms Freeman’s role in helping move establish this critical work, which continues to benefit practices and patients across Scotland.
