Cabinet Secretary for Health visits Lanarkshire to discuss Low Vision Services
Optometry Scotland was pleased to announce support shown by the Scottish Government for the development of Community Low Vision Services, including a visit by Neil Gray MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, hosted by our Honorary Member and founder, Frank Munro.
Frank welcomed the Cabinet Secretary in his capacity as Optometric Adviser for Lanarkshire, using the opportunity to highlight the growing need for community-based low vision services and the practical difference these services make to patients’ daily lives.
Following the visit, the Scottish Government shared a post on their Twitter/X channel reaffirming their commitment to low vision services, with a link to further information on how this will be taken forward following the recent Scottish Budget.
This engagement reflects ongoing work to strengthen local access to eye care and ensure people living with sight loss can receive timely, practical support closer to home.
The visit has also received wider media attention, including coverage in the Daily Mail here.
Frank’s long-standing leadership within Optometry Scotland and his continued work across Lanarkshire developing local low vision and to the optometry field more generally, demonstrate the vital role community optometry plays in shaping policy discussions and improving outcomes for patients.

Optometry Scotland will continue to work closely with government and partners to progress the development of community low vision services across Scotland, ensuring eye care remains accessible, patient-centred and delivered locally.
