The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is delighted to announce that bookings are now open for its 2025 clinical conference – and for the first time, non-members are invited to attend the in-person sessions.
Taking place at the ABDO National Resource Centre (NRC) in Birmingham, the practical element of this hybrid conference will be held on Sunday 12 October and Monday 13 October. Attendees can choose either date, as the same high-quality education will be delivered on both days.
This year’s clinical theme is dry eye disease, and the programme features a series of hands-on, interactive workshops designed to enhance clinical confidence and foster collaborative care across the eyecare team. Highlights include:
- Dry eye on the front line – Work in teams to assess real-world patient scenarios, ask the right questions and determine next steps – all while considering the role of the wider multidisciplinary practice team.
- Supporting a dry eye clinic – Gain practical skills in using and educating patients about ocular lubricants and adjunct therapies. Rotate through interactive stations to build confidence and improve patient outcomes.
- Dry eye puzzle: diagnostic strategies from TFOS DEWS III – Explore the scope of practice for different eyecare professionals and learn how to effectively use dry eye symptom questionnaires in clinical settings.
- Escape the circle of dry eye disease – In this unique escape room-style experience, teams will work together to understand the patient journey and discover strategies to break the cycle of dry eye disease.
Alex Webster, ABDO’s director of professional development, commented, “We are pleased to be able to offer places at our 2025 clinical conference to non-ABDO members. This year’s clinical theme is dry eye, and it is important that all members of the practice team understand each other’s scope of practice in this area and work together to enable patients to be diagnosed and managed effectively.
Each of our conference sessions provides interactive CPD points for optometrists, contact lens opticians and dispensing opticians.”
Attendees can earn up to 14 interactive CPD points.
Tickets for non-members are priced at £99, which includes lunch and refreshments.
